I have designed and planted many wonderful Formal Gardens. But in recent years they have gone out of "fashion"...and of course garden design is very much a fashion thing! Which is very sad because they are a real challenge to get right...so if you really do want a Formal Garden then I would love to Design one for you!

These two examples are kind of...Semi-Formal. Although they have very Formal layouts...I planted them in a much more relaxed way than you should in a ridged Formal Garden. This client probably lost about £13 000 (plus my costs to rebuild it), having this mess created, then chose to have me rip it out and start again...there was also a "natural" stream" in the same terrible style. You can see that and how I changed it to really "Natural", in the HOW NOT TO section


And can you believe that a LANDSCAPER built this to show potential clients what he could do!

One of the best ways to learn is by laughing at other peoples terrible mistakes. But NOT if you have paid a very expensive supposedly "PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPER" A LOT OF MONEY TO BUILD SOMETHING LIKE YOU SEE HERE!

The World is full of "Landscapers" who do not have a clue...sadly if YOU don't have a clue either you will be caught out... but again, even if you don't want to DO-IT-YOURSELF, armed with my knowledge you will be able to catch THEM out! I'll show you how not to get caught out.

And this you can excuse because it was built by an enthusiastic
DO-IT-YOURSELFER...who clearly hadn't read MY information before starting!

Well it is "Natural"...but a mess. And that bulge in the middle is a major problem. See DRAINAGE and HIGH WATER TABLES.
